About

This is a site dedicated to the fine art of good-enough writing.  It’s a tribute to The Would-Be Writers Guild, an actual group of people who gather monthly to write in spiral notebooks and eat a lot of good food.  I hosted a group from June 2002 until June 2008 in Utah, I now host a new group on the east coast, and I also host this blog.

Writing Down the Bones

I write (almost) every weekday, using a method found in this amazing book I first read as a freshman in college, and rediscovered several years later. The method? I write fast. I don’t edit myself. I don’t think. I ignore the rules and go for it. Afterward, I go back and try to fix my grammar and spelling, then I post it for you to read. Then I ask my husband if he thinks I’m funny.

If you spend any amount of time on this site, you will learn more about me, my husband and two kids, our dog, my friends, my pet peeves, my observations, and my pesky toenail fungus than you will probably ever care to know.

In August 2008 my family relocated from Utah to the east coast for my husband’s new job as a professor at a lovely red brick university. Neither my husband nor I had lived outside of Utah. These last two sentences alone should make for lots and lots of entertaining reading.

I love comments (please make them). I love e-mails (please send them). I love shopping and eating out. I love summer. I love road trips and music that I can sing along with. I’m afraid of semi-colons.

This site began when I was writing as a hobby, and today I write for a living as a freelancer. Among other small jobs, I write the gift catalog for a famous cookie company. You can order your own catalog to read cover to cover here.

I hope you enjoy my humble website, and even moreso, I hope it inspires the would-be writer in you.

Feel free to contact me. I’m nice. tiffany [at] wouldbewritersguild [dot] com.

  1. [...] While working furiously the last few days on a tedious project with a looming deadline, I’ve been using my spare seconds to clean up some out-dated and un-used aspects of this website. I re-wrote the About and FAQ pages, recognizing that when this site was born most of the readers were members of The Would-be Writers Guild. I don’t believe that to be the case anymore (welcome anonymous readers!) so the time has come to make the site more Anonymous Reader Friendly. I also deleted a few features, which I don’t think you’ll miss because they were rarely used. [...]

  2. [...] So … if you want to read more about me, go check out Tiffany’s interview. Or just go check out Tiffany. She’s nice. And she likes Beckys. So if you are one (a Becky), be sure to leave a comment. Oh, and she’s celebrating her birthday, her husband’s birthday and her blogiversary. Go wish her a happy, happy, happy! [...]
