Not to mention learning how to keep a tidy cottage

August 27th, 2008

This morning Max and I visited his new kindergarten for an open house. We met his teacher, an adorable young lady who looks like and especially sounds like Snow White. She was very sweet and welcoming and I think she’ll be a nice fit for Max, who presented himself as a cross between Bashful and Sneezy.

As we talked about Max, I found myself wanting to talk in a similar high-pitched tone. I’m not sure if it was to make myself feel more comfortable, or because I thought it might enhance my ability to communicate with her without the other parents being able to hear.

Before we left, Max wanted to show his teacher something special—the small light-up Buzz Lightyear gun he had stored in his pocket. She loved it, of course; Buzz is one of her favorites. I winked at her and promised not to tell Prince You-Know-Who.

Although Belle may have been my first pick among the Disney Princesses to educate my child, I think that Snow White will do a fine job. Along with reading, writing, and math skills, I believe that learning how to communicate with bluebirds and forest creatures is among the most important skills one can have. Especially around these parts.

Here’s to a new school year!
