I am the sun in his nose

June 25th, 2008

Today was my last day to volunteer in Christian’s class, and much to my surprise they presented me with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers and a compilation of their favorite writing pieces. It was an awfully sweet gesture.

Me and my flowers

As soon as I got home, I put the flowers in water and then cozied up in the couch to read my book. There were many highlights but I think I found my favorite, a poem written by one of the boys:

Mrs. B.
You are the light in my eyes
You are the star in my head
You are the sun in my nose
You are the moon in my mouth

If he was a little older, I could be afraid that it was filled with pre-pubescent innuendo. However, I think—and I plan to keep thinking this way—that it was a tribute to my abilities as a writing instructor. And the fact that on several occasions I brought snacks.

I was wondering what that taste was when I walked outside in the dark… It was the moon in my mouth.

So sweet. I saw your car at the school yesterday & thought that’s why you might be there. Shaylor got hit in the head with a golf club so the school called me to come check out the damage. I should have popped my head in & joined your class for the afternoon. I think it is so neat that you took time out of your schedule to do that. Obviously it meant a lot to them. You are AMAZING.

  8. That is darling! How fun. :)
