If I didn’t believe in Kharma before, I do now. This morning I was drafting a beautiful post about German Pancakes and all the ways they make me happy, and how I am slightly obsessed with them, and all the reasons why they are the answer to civil unrest in the world, when my doorbell rang.
I peeked out the window and saw a UPS truck parked outside. I opened the door and there stood a brown-clad man holding a box with my name on it. I opened it up to find the nicest, out-of-the-blue surprise I have ever had. (Other than that one time when the McDonald’s employees put Apple Dippers AND fries in my Happy Meal.) Inside the box was a small bundle wrapped in purple tissue paper. I opened the enclosed card to find an incredibly nice note from DeDe and James accompanied by this gathering of amazing gifts:
A journal filled with timeless ready-for-my-chalkboard quotes; a beautiful vintage-y necklace; and an amazing mix CD to play in the background of my summer. I was dumbfounded. I felt so spoiled and loved. The warm-fuzziness was tangible as I typed a thankful e-mail. I have spent the moments since then trying to figure out what I could have done to warrant this, and I could only come up with this: Kharma. It’s the only thing that makes any sense. You see, yesterday I spent the day going around town sharing a special message with my fellow Americans written across my heart.
It’s a wonderful cause I feel committed to, and it looks as though the universe is thanking me for my efforts.

I love that necklace, I was just thinking about buying it. I found it on a cute little website. Maybe this is kharma telling me to buy the necklace. I love the shirt, Britney and everyone else, thanks you.
All I can say is I’m a lucky mom. All the way around. It’s a beautiful world bcs my kids are in it.

surprise packages are the greatest! In college Liz aptly named the ups man the “brown santa”. Whenever he pulled into our apartment building’s parking lot we all pressed our noses to the glass hoping he would bring something to us. Now I get an email from my building anytime I get a package and even if it is just something I ordered for myself, I can’t wait to get home to see what the Brown Santa (or the FedEX Bunny?) has left me.
