Everything I Know About History I Learned at the Movies

March 21st, 2007

Okay, so I finished watching Marie Antoinette and now I know why all of those peasants in Les Miserables might have been just a bit displeased with their spendy queen. It’s unfortunate that they couldn’t have seen this movie, however, and realized that she was actually pretty nice and authentic, and became an unfortunate victim of propaganda. And perhaps it’s even more unfortunate that Marie Antoinette couldn’t have seen their movie, or at least listened to the Broadway soundtrack.

It’s a crying shame.

All that aside, it’s a good movie and an absolute visual feast.

  1. I saw this movie on an airplane. When the end came I couldn’t help but say “huh?”
I just didn’t get it. Seriously – a Marie Antoinette film with absolutely No beheading. Somehow seemed wrong.

Man, I gotta get my hands on this flick. Did you get it through your Blockbuster membership?

  3. Tiffany says:

Yes, Blockbuster Online sent it a few days ago. (Starring Kiki Dunst.) I’m sure you’d love it, even if you had to watch it on mute.

I’m so glad you liked it!! I love movies with visual depth. Another favorite movie in the visually stimulating genre include Moulin Rouge or really anything by Baz Luhrman. I’ve also discovered director Mira Nair – she films beautiful movies including Monsoon Wedding and Vanity Fair. I’m excited for her new movie The Namesake.

    Hurrah for Baz Luhrman!

Also, thanks for answering my question Tiff. I’ve been trying to figure out the pluses and minuses between Blockbuster and Netflix memberships. Blockbuster just got a big plus, in my book.
