Happy Birthday, Website!

February 16th, 2007

It’s hard to believe, but this little baby of a website is turning one year old tomorrow! And because I have a lot of stuff planned tomorrow (taking the website to the zoo, having its portrait painted, baking its cake, and trying to help it open all its presents without opposable thumbs) I thought we’d begin festivities today. For starters, here are some fun facts about our dear little website:

As of 10:30 a.m., the site has been viewed 5160 times in the past year.

Only 4236 of those were me.

It currently contains 290 posts and 563 comments.

Thus far, my spam-catcher has kept 1457 offers for male enhancement and real Gucci bags from reaching your precious eyes in the comments section.

But more than simple statistics, this website was a large part of my sanity during the past year—an incredibly difficult year for me in a lot of ways as I quit my job, graduated from school, and began a new career. It’s been a perfect outlet for the thoughts, ideas, and rants that needed to find a home outside of my rickety mind. It’s kept my writing mind fresh, and become the closest thing to a consistent journal I’ve ever kept.

It’s also been a way for me to feel closer to my own family, a group so large that when we see each other in person it’s hard to really talk about anything other than how are you and I just saw one of your kids out playing in the road.

I’ve met many new friends here. I take daily visits into their worlds on their own websites, which has helped the transition from formal office work to home office work a lot less daunting. My only wish is that we could go to lunch together like real officemates and come back late and hope our boss doesn’t notice.

So thank you, little website, for being one of the best parts of my twenty-ninth year. You’re blossoming into a fine, young website, and I couldn’t be prouder of you. In the future, I look forward to you being able to eat solid foods, begin walking by yourself, and eventually writing your own posts.

And you, dear reader, thanks for checking in.

I have loved watching you grow (of course I thought you were so much older, because of the wisdom of that 29 year old that posts here:) It has been a pleasure to check for new posts. Way to go, WBWG!

I’m available for lunch anytime, by the way, and we don’t even have to worry about getting back on time at all. :)

I promise it is one of my best! We will definitely have to sneak away for a long lunch one of these days soon. We can pick a virtual date one day soon – maybe sushi?
Thanks for the oh so many stolen respites from work you have given me.
