“Don’t worry, honey, that is not a giant airplane landing in our room, it’s just the air conditioner.”

I HATE loud air conditioners, loud heaters, loud dishwashers, loud refridgerators, etc. I can sleep with loud NYC street noise outside my window or near that ridiculous train in SLC that has to blow its whistle every 10 yards but when the airconditioner kicks in or the dishwasher is running (mine is REALLY loud and not that far from my bedroom), I cannot fall asleep.

My wife has to have noise to sleep. She deploys a loud fan, a humidifier and earplugs. I usually have to shout GOOD NIGHT to her. She will, however hear the girls if they’re having a bad dream or me “breathing” too loudly. I ask her why if she can not hear me yelling good night, then why can she hear my breathing? I told her to put a pillow over my face and she replied, “Don’t tempt me”. Still in wedded bliss after nearly 19 years…

I like the loud AC, too. I sleep with a fan on year-round.
